Virginia Sport Horses (VSH) specializes in selecting and training sport horses. We offer the widest selection of sport horse prospects, at the most reasonable prices, available on the East Coast.
We breed, raise, personally select and professionally train our horses. Our horses are safe, sane, and sound. They are the horses of choice for the Virginia and NC Trainers Challenges due to their gentle and accepting nature. Our horses and business has been featured in such publications as Practical Horseman, Hunter and Sport Horse and Covertside.
Our Philosophy
Since most of today's equestrians are amateur riders, VSH has tried to take some of the guess work out of selecting your next equine partner. Our horses are bred and seorlected for good conformation and good minds. They're athletic, easygoing and have a lot of personality.
Our philosophy is simple, we strive to bring you a cross section of sane, easily trainable draft crosses at a sensible price. Our prices are quite reasonable, and are based on the training each horse has received.
We are known for our "Signature Crosses". These American Warmblood Eligible crossbreds compare favorably to Sport Horse Quality European Warmbloods and many of our broodmares are Hanoverian, Holsteiner, Dutch Warmblood and Selle Francais. They have made VSH the supplier of choice since 2006 to the NC and VA East Coast Trainers Challenge. These are highly trainable, well coupled, healthy, athletic and durable horses well suited to jumping, dressage and eventing. They make excellent choices for todays Fox Hunter who also wants to work at dressage, event, or show on the off season..
VSH also breeds and maintains a wide selection of both traditional Bay with Chrome and Black with Chrome as well as Black and White Tobiano Shire and Cyldesdale Sporthorses. We also import a select few TB/Percherons as well as other draftcrosses popular with fox hunters.
Farm and Foal Tour: We will take you to our Montpelier farm to view our adult horses living out in a natural setting and to our Main Farm where you can view and interact with our stallions and foals in the barn and out in the pasture. $100 per person. Groups of up to 4 $250.

CFHH at Hampstead Plantation: Please join us this SATURDAY JANUARY 19 at 10:00 am to hunt the picturesque and bucolic Hamptstead Plantation. Attire is ratcatcher. Cap Fees are $50. . VSH horse rental and transportation $150.
WEEKEND FOXHUNTING: With Hunt season in full swing, we are making plans to have several of our rising 4 and 5yr olds hunted with 3 recognized hunts in the area to add breadth to their experience base and training. Customers with a serious interest can call to place the horse of their choice on the list. For those wishing to hunt themselves. whether it is a leisurely ride to hounds on a historic Virginia plantation, a brisk, misty morning stirrup cup or a lively romp through the countryside, we can provide suitable mounts and accompanying hunt groom.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES::
HUNT GROOM - Experienced Hunt Groom needed for Saturday and Sunday Hunts. RELIABLE, Brave must have transportation and social skills.
RIDER - ADVANCED RIDER, must be RELIABLE, able to ride a minimum of 8 horses per day, two days per week and available on the weekends, must have transportation. EXPERIENCED RIDING GREEN HORSES.
WORKING STUDENT - GOOD RIDER who wants to work hard, learn and progress to being a professional. Must have transportation and be reliable.
We are looking for a rider/riders. We are in need of the following:
An experienced roughstock rider.. A rider with experience starting at least 50 or more horses undersaddle. Must be physically fit, have transportation, drug and alcohol free. Persons with jockey cards and natural horsemanship certifications are encouraged to apply.
Advanced Rider - Physically fit and able to ride a minimum of 10 young horses per day. Must have the ability to train a horse to move off leg, give to the bit, go forward, pick up leads, get flying and autochanges, count strides etc.
Working Students - we have UNPAID positions for riders not meeting the above qualifications and interested to learn and/or fox hunt. Are you the best rider at your barn and want to move forward? Check out our working student program.

Horse of the Week: Athena
Athena is a 5yr old Clyde/TB cross Canadian-bred Sport Horse which we imported several years back. She returned to Virginia to hunt with 4 rcognized Virginias Hunts last week including Farmington, Keswick and Bull Run. The last of the 4 was with Keswick where she rode the third position in first field and received many compliments. Athena is a sibling to Bradley, Tempo, Fonda, Booker, and Wentworth.
