Farm Vs. Internet Pricing
Most but not all of our horses are listed on the price list. 99% of our horses are here on one of our 4 Virginia farms. Horses not yet here in Virginia, are generally grouped and listed as Special Purchases on our home page.
Prices on the price list are FARM PRICES. These are FULL LIST PRICE. These are the prices that are intended for customers who have sales appointments, bring trainers and/or have the horses fully vetted.
Selected horses are specially price for INTERNET PURCHASE as well.
E-mail virginiasporthorses@yahoo.com to request an INTERNET PRICE QUOTE for horses not price for internet sale.
We also sell many horses over the Internet and are happy to quote INTERNET pricing. Internet pricing is posted for selected horses and also can be custom pricing based on how the customer intends to purchase, how many horses they intend to purchase and the level of value added service that VSH will provide. INTERNET pricing is ALWAYS less than FARM PRICING except in the rare occasion where a horse is already priced at our lowest pricing level. INTERNET PRICING DOES NOT INCLUDE A SALES APPOINTMENT. Internet pricing with full vetting can be quoted as well as Internet pricing without vetting. Internet price quotes are good for 7 days. Internet pricing DOES NOT INCLUDE additional photographs, video or additional sales consulting services, such as lengthy and numerous email exchanges. If you desire these services, please request A CUSTOM internet price quote.

At Risk horses. We have always been active in the selection, organization, and coordination of group purchases of Sport Horse Quality horses that are headed to Meat Buyer Sales or being fed on Feed Lots in Northwestern Canada. A minimum number of horses must be purchased in order to make these operations logistically feasible. In most cases, VSH is the major (or sole) financer and purchaser and we offer these horses to our customers who are interested to obtain a quality youngster and save them from an undesireable fate. Depending on the geographic location of the subject horses and the location of the buyer, costs for such horses vary. Transportation from NW Canada is about $600/750 for an individual horse, veterinary and import costs can run as high as $250 and board at appr $3.00/day can be necessary. Other logistical costs may be incurred by VSH that are factored into pricing such as halters, wormers, vaccinations, antibiotics, interim transportation, etc. The Canadian dollar is now par with the US dollar and the Canadian Horse Meat Market is strong and healthy, running from $.70 - $1.10lb. Most of the horses that we import weigh 1,200lbs - 1600lbs, with the exception of weanlings which run about 800-900lbs. You could expect to pay from $1,500 for weanlings to $3,500 for 3 - 4 yr old geldings. These horses can be delivered anywhere in the US, but are only available during the limited timeframe that the group is available to us.
Each year, more and more of the Clydesdale breeding stock is dispersed, we are seeing the last of the remaining breeding stock going this year and in a few years, these wonderful Canadian-bred Clydesdale cross horses will no longer be available..
While there continues to be a small number of active PMU farms that breed Draft Crosses, these horses generally are not at risk and are only offered in September/October at 4-5 months of age, and breeding programs are often guided by non-market based input which sometimes results in a higher % of TB, Percheron and QH breeding than we find to be ideal for the American Sport Horse market.
While we are always interested in speaking to those with a genuine interest in purchasing an at risk horse, we have published the above information to help dispell misconceptions regarding the pricing of at risk horses. There may be lesser priced horses available from US sources, however, ours are healthy, hand picked and Sport Horse quality. (They are generally in very good flesh...)
