Fiona is a 17H, 2001 registered Shire Sporthorse and Registered Premium Spotted Draft. She is sired by well known NASDHA stallion, Indy Prince Cody and out of the ASHA Reg. mare, Black Walnut Princess Taylor. She is a black and white tobiano mare with two unique and stunning blue eyes set against a jet black background.
Fiona has 3 pages...so dont miss these... She's been my personal horse for several years now, and I have turned down several offers to sell her over the years. This year I have my hands full trying to get several young horses hunted and so have decided to price her to sell. She is truly a one in a million mare and I have been blessed to have had the fortune to have owned and ridden her.
11/05/09 Fiona has continued to be busy..our hardest working horse at this point. She is hunting every week, providing leads to both our current group of 7 greenies just returned from the trainer as well as our group of 5 or so who are starting to develop their cross country skills. She is used often as a lead horse on the cross country course for customer appointments and is schooling dressage and starting to compete in eventing with Taylor Booth.
10/13/09 Fiona started cub hunting with Lynnhaven this week. She is phenomenal. Smart mare that is no nonsense, bold, surefooted and knows and enoys her job.
8/20/09 Fiona is now having fun with cross country.. Schooling prelim. Check out her other pages for more pics..
1/11/2009 I hunted Fiona today with Lynhaven Hounds, a small private pack in Orange Virginia. She performed flawlessly, drawing complements from the fieldmaster and stood quietly when then huntsman fired his pistol. The country was very trappy as we have had about 10 inches of rain in the last week...(thats a LOT)... Fiona was extremely carefull. I have been riding her all week really and she has just taken care of me in the sloppy terrain, slowing down when she needs to, taking steep downhill slopes one step at a time, and finding the right approach. She pays attention and if she sees deer or something that I should know about she will let me know without stopping or spooking...just an exceptional horse...she just gives me that 110% and that depth that you rarely get from a gelding.... There is nothing in this world like a good mare...and she is certainly that.
12/08 Hunted 1st flight with Colonial Fox Hounds at Millstone, another joint meet with Princess Anne Hunt. FABULOUS.... I LOVE THIS MARE!!!!
11/23/2008 I hunted Fiona for the first formal hunt this season, a joint meet at Northfield Plantation with Princess Anne Hunt hosting Colonial Fox Hounds. I hunted her 2nd flight as I thought that it was a pretty risky move to take a horse that had never been really been hunted to a joint meet in the first place. (She did a few wednesday hunts last season with CFHH, cubbed this fall and did the hunter pace). She was fantastic...she is used to leading, and so would have preferred first flight, so it took her a minute to figure out that it wasn't her decision, and it was a bit tough for her having such a nice big stride, having to follow smaller horses, but once we got going she was perfect. She does not give a rip about the hounds or much else and is a nice responsive horse, easy to ride all day with her comfortable gaits. I also should add, that so far...we have never had to drug our horses prior to or during hunting.. Fiona is hunted in a low port Kimberwicke.
Aug 2008
Fiona continued to exhibit this year at such venues as the Equine Affaire in Columbus Ohio, The Equine Extravaganza in Raleigh NC, The Patrick County Community College Equine Affair and plans to show in October at the Virginia Equine Extravaganza. Due to her beauty and well behaved nature she has been requested to perform and be a last minute participant in many clinics and competitions. She has performed twice in American Horse Idol competitions, placing 2nd each time. She has received accolades from many clinicians including Dressage and Body Mechanics Clinician Colleen Kelly who said she wanted to "sneak her back on the plane to Australia with her" and that "There should be a breed of horses exactly like her". She has also been ridden many a time by 12 yr old rider Leah Frahlin and last minute "pickup riders" and performed fabulously. She is one of the favorite horses of all that I have owned and if I had to give this all up tomorrow and pick just one horse to keep, I honestly would have a very difficult time choosing between Seamus and Fiona. I am a fortunate and priviledged person to have owned such a mare. Please visit our galleries to see some of the many pictures of Fiona in her various performances and our youtube channel to see her live performances
Fiona is well broke to drive and ride. She has been trained, ridden and attended clinics taught by several noteworthy individuals including:
Julie Goodnight, Colleen Kelly, Thomas Nilsson, and Pat Boone. She is extremely well mannered, quiet, balanced and athletic. She has gaits to die for and is so so comfortable to ride. She is gentle and extremely friendly. She seems to know that she is a princess and just thrives on attention. She is well behaved in the pasture in the prescence of people and with other horses turned out.
Fiona is ridden regularly in exhibitions and trail rides. She is a "cadillac" trail horse, with super smooth gaits, comfortable in all positions, fearless and unflappable at water crossings etc, often leading organized rides in both rural and urban settings. Fiona ground ties and will not wander. She self loads in a trailer. She will put her quarters into the corner of the trailer, turning her head slightly to make room for others. She is very intelligent and easily trained, eager to please and once trained, retains her training indefinitely. Fiona is now jumping in the arena and tackling coops and natural obstacles. She is ready to begin a summer of Hunter Paces, followed by cubbing and Fox Hunting this fall. This mare is the center of attention wherever she goes, not just because of her stunning beauty, but her stellar temperament, manners and performance. She has quite the regal demeanor and absolutely laps it up. She is not in the least bit mareish and really is just a darling, this is a mare that is so loving and docile, you can not help but fall under her spell. She is good for the farrier and she would not think so much as to pin her ears at you or cock a foot. Fiona is an excellent judge of character and she gives 110% to those who treat her with kindness.
Fiona is half sister to Seamus, full sister to Fintan (now sold) , and "aunt" to Tinker.
October 2007
This year marked Fiona's first live performances at the 2007 Virginia Equine Extravaganza. Although Fiona greatly enjoyed her participation last year in various clinics, this year marked her public riding "debut"... She preformed alongside Seamus, riding rhythmically to stirring Gaelic ballad "Mo Ghile" and was asked to be a last minute "dressage" contestant in the American Horse Idol Competition. VSH rider Ashley Jenkins rose boldly to the Challenge and Fiona and Ashley received accolades from their fellow competitors, audience members and show organizers.
Fiona has an elegant head...despite her 17H, she fits easily into a warmblood size bridle.
November 2008
Fiona is now hunting with CFHH, takes coops to 3'6" and working on her dressage. She participated in numerous clinics with trainers and clinicians such as Scott Purdam, Ed Dabney, and Colleen Kelly at the 2008 Virginia Equine Extravaganza.
