Adagio is just so quiet and just does exactly what he is supposed to be doing...he is almost boring.. We pull him from pasture, teach him something, he picks right up on it does it and we turn him back out. I often forget that he is around and neglect to put him on the list for customer appts because is is such a low-key under the radar kind of horse. Definitely the opposite of a drama queen.. He minds his own business in the pasture and never gets into trouble. If he were a person he would be an honor roll student who grew up to be an accountant. He would make a nice dressage horse or a super dependable hunt horse or trail partner. When he was being trained at the Virginia Equine Extravaganza, at the end of the 3 hours, he was doing far more than any of the other horses there, just one thing after another.. He's got a great mind and tremendous capacity to accept and retain training.
4/6/10 update: After being out to pasture all winter, we pulled Adagio in, bathed him, put him in the trailer and took him out to Kelly's Ford Equestrian Center Cross Country Course, he schooled everything that was beginner novice. He was as unflappable as always.
2/13/10 update: Exciting news for Adagio... He was requested to return to the Virginia Equine Extravaganza East Coast Trainers Challenge along with Brogan and Maxwell to perform for trainers Charles Pelham, Kenny Harlow, and Scot Purdum in a first ever "Trainers Challenge Alumnae Presentation". In addition Charles Pelham has requested Adagio to be ridden by one of his students in a versatility and cutting demonstration, also at the Extravaganza...
8/26/09 update: Adagio is an unflappably quiet, well behaved young gelding. He is trail riding, schooling in the arena and jumping cross country to about 2'. He's in our active rotation and will start showing cross country and foxhunting this fall. May thanks to trainer Charles Pelham for the outstanding job that he did with Adagio as a 2 yr old at the Virginia Equine Extravaganza and to H&M Cutting Horses for the 30 days training that followed. We took it easy on him until well into his 3rd year and he is now starting to jump as a rising 4 yr old.
Many pictures of Adagio taken during the East Coast Trainers Challenge can be found on our galleries:

This is Adagio. Adagio was born in April 2006 and has been imported from Saskatchewan, NW Canada. He is a sibling to many of the horses that we have raised here including Jette (Reg. AWS Preferred Red Status) aka "Black Tie Affaire", Hottotrot, Splash aka Alex owned by Nadine W. of Huntsville Ala, Sasha, and Torin aka "Coal Miner". These horses have all gone on to be Dressage and Hunter Equitation Horses. Adagio has an out of the box natural friendly and unflappable nature. He is a lighter horse than most that we raise, having less than 1/4 draft in his makeup. He is a definite candidate for the 2008 Virginia Equine Extravaganza Trainers Challenge Championship and for that reason, we have carefully avoided undue handling so as to not put any of the competing trainers at a disadvantage
November 3, 2008. Virginia Sport Horses would like to thank the Equine Extravaganza for selecting our horses to be participants in the Challenge for the 3rd consecutive year. It is an honor. We would also like to extend a special thank you to trainer Charles Pelham who did an outstanding job with Adagio. I have seen a total of 13 of my own colts trained in these challenges, and this was one of the finest jobs. Charles did a great job of establishing leadership in a gentle yet direct way and Adagio just gave 110%. We will post pictures as soon as we can get them downloaded, and a video will also be posted to youtube... Highlights will include Charles cantering Adagio in both directions, Adagio wearing a tarp, pulling a fir tree, Charles standing on his back cracking a bull whip and much more.. A great job, and an incredible performance.
Adagio, like the other contestants, Glenkerry, Showboat, and Arrive Alive were whisked away from the competition to a training facility where they started their first of 30 days training under saddle this morning.
Adagio returned from training on December 3, 2008. I picked him up in person and taped him being ridden. Please contact me if you are interested and I can upload the footage to youtube. Adagio is going quietly at the w,t,c, picks up both leads effortlessly, has a nice easy going little rocking horse canter, has excellent brakes and is giving to the bit nicely. He is responsive to leg and hacks out alone or in company.
We took him out with a group of horses on Dec 6 to a cross country course and he learned to jump log jumps, banks and ditches. This gelding just accepts direction nicely and does what he is asked. He is very brave for a gelding and will make a great hunt horse, although he is well suited to the hunter ring, and would make an excellent choice for dressage or combined training.
1/21/09 Adagio continues to receive additional schooling.. While we are careful not to jump or stress young horses with tedious or demanding work, we pull them from pasture and either trail ride or ride them in the arena for no more than 30 minutes. Adagio will go w,t,c quietly in both directions, gets both leads and will willing pop over anything that he might encounter in a hunter course to 3'. He is an uncomplicated little guy who just does what you ask of him. This is a VERY NICE fresh gelding with a flawless start, sound of good conformation and temperament, unflappable with lovely gaits..well suited to all of the sporting disciplines at an amateur level. He is ready to go and become someones horse.
