Gunter is a 2005, 17.1H, Dutch Harness/Percheron cross. He floats on air...literally, and much more so than any other horse we have had here..he could float right over a cross rail and he jumps 5'6" effortlessly and from a stand still if he is interested in changing pastures. He is as cuddly and friendly as a Teddy Bear, just a darling of a BIG baby..
7/21/09 update: Gunter has really turned out to be a spectacular horse. He has an absolutely charming and loveable personality with an endearing youthfull quality. He is very different than most other horses that I have known and raised in his huge lofty gaits and supersized ability to effortlessly jump anything. He is a very happy guy, with a solid foundation, no bad habits, good for the farrier, plays well with others, super healthy, with good feet, rock solid, straight, sturdy legs with not as much as a splint, a great bite and good teeth. He turns heads and garners attention where ever he goes.
10/22/08 update: This is an amazing gelding.. Easygoing and friendly, tall and elegant with a TON of presence, he learns so quickly. He is now cooping at hunt fixtures and preparing for the 2008 season. Gunter will be performing for the first time in the American Warmblood Breed Demo on Friday Oct 31, and then Saturday and Sunday at the Virginia Equine Extravaganza at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Gunter is also slated to participate in Steuart Pittman eventing, Colleen Kelly Dressage as well as other Natural Horsemanship clinics during the expo.. Stop by the VSH booth located at the entrance of the Dominion Bldg to get an updated copy of Gunter's scheduled appearances.. 9/30/08 update: Gunter has been in our riding rotation and has been out to various locations including Show Grounds, Hunt Fixtures, and Trail Riding Parks. Recently we took him to Lake Anna State Park where he happily and calmly walked into the lake. Gunter actually went out several times that day as with his bold nature and ground covering stride we were able to put him to work as the lead horse, bringing the greenies along... He is a good one!! Just a very cool horse...
Gunter went to his first Hunter Pace tomorrow with Colonial Fox Hounds at Millstone, just for exposure, he took it all in stride. He is one of our prime hunt prospects and will start hunting with CFHH in the next 2 weeks...
Gunter was taught this summer to position himself such that he can be mounted from the wheel well of a horse trailer....a useful skill for such a tall boy!!
Gunter was shown this summer (2009) and is hunting this season with Lynnhaven Hounds Hunt, whipping about once a month. He can take any coop on any fixture and would make a great staff horse.
